About Carin Meltzér

Project title: Chest tomosynthesis for detction and follow-up of pathology

Chest tomosynthesis is a novel imaging technique that enables the chest to be visualized in slices. Similar till computed tomography (CT), but at radiation doses, examination times and costs comparable to conventional radiography. Replacing conventional chest radiography with tomosynthesis is expected to lead to a considerable improvement regarding diagnostic information at a modest increase in radiation dose and it has been suggested that tomosynthesis maybe able to replace CT for certain clinical tasks. However, today there is little evidence regarding clinical use of the chest tomosynthesis in health care. The present doctoral project "Chest tomosynthesis for detction and follow-up of pathology" aims at evaluating the clinicall uesfulness of chest tomosynthesis by investigating specific clinical tasks for which tomosynthesis may be able to replace CT.
